Enstone Wildflower Meadow Planting

A Successful Day at the Crossroads and St Kenelm’s Churchyard!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to help with seeding the land at the crossroads and with the permission of St Kenelm's in the old churchyard too. We are now one step closer to seeing a vibrant display of wildflowers bloom next year!

Thanks to all the volunteers who brought their lawnmowers, rakes, energy, coffee and biscuits, as shown in the photos below!

Why Wildflower Meadows Matter 🌸 🐝

  • Wildflower meadows are crucial ecosystems, and nurturing them in our parish brings many benefits to both the environment and the community. These meadows not only provide important habitats for wildlife but also contribute to improving soil health and storing carbon.

  • By creating wildflower spaces at the crossroads and in St Kenelm’s churchyard, we’re helping to restore biodiversity in our local area. These spaces will attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while adding natural beauty for everyone to enjoy.

  • 97% of the UK’s wildflower meadows have been lost, over 200,000 miles of hedgerows have been destroyed and half of our ancient woodland and heathland has disappeared, making initiatives like this and 'No-Mow May' more important than ever.

A Big Thank You!

We also want to say a huge thank you to ENCON and the Cooperative Supermarket Community Fund both of which have recently given grants to Enstone Eco.

This meant our volunteers could create these wildflower meadows. Without this funding we simply couldn't have done it.

It also means we will be able to develop more community projects that impact and foster nature recovery in the parish.
